A visit to Nutley Windmill
Testing the new Jimny's load carrying capability as we take an engine along to Nutley Windmill on the Ashdown Forest for an open day event.
The mill is the only working open trestle post mill in the country, an ancient design that dates back to the 12th century. The mill post is dated back to the 1530's but the mill was moved to the current site around 1835 and worked until around 1908. Restoration began in 1968 and the mill remains a fine, working survivor.

The High Weald Steam Working Weekend 2023
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
Some film taken at the second annual steam rally at Danehill, East Sussex. A busy working show with so much to see- this video is just a taster of the exhibits to be seen. The format is very much that of an old time steam rally, as they were- that is, working exhibits to be seen everywhere for the duration of the show, rather than set arena events. Most certainly not to be missed next year!

1900 A.E & H. Robinson HR, Size V -Stationary Engine- First Start
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Год назад
After a restoration which has taken just over a year, this is the first start or my 3/4HP Robinson engine. The engine originally drove a well pump for a house in East Sussex and was replaced in the early 1920's by an imported American engine. With the known history and the general condition of the engine when purchased, it is likely that this was the first run in a century. There is a certain a...

Great Engine Show And A Great Windmill😊 Thanks For Posting😊
Wonderful. Thanks for posting this.
Very helpful, much appreciated, cheers Col.
Thank you for this video. We have a Lister water pump. Pump No. 3777/1. Where can I purchase the crank starter to start pump?
Hi there. Thanks for all the great videos. I've found them very helpful in rebuilding my Stage 1v8 Landrover. I have just rebuilt and fitted a Fairey overdrive - the later, evidently stronger LT95 variant. It goes well, little noise. What I have noticed though is that it gets very hot - too hot to hold my hand on. Does your one get that hot during highway operation? Thank you.
not that rolling back seem's to be an issue but gypsy's would pull a bit of wood up steep hill's tied so it drag's just behind the rear axle and if the horse need's to reat or stop it can as it act's like a chock the wood is the width of the axle and a bit extra simple idea
Indeed, and the heavy haulage boys too if they've got any sense. In this case however, that thing wasn't rolling anywhere unassisted, unfortunately..
@@steamwally yes just a thing that people should know about but often don't
Hi mate. Would it be possible to contact you other than on this channel. I’m looking for some advice on a gearbox removal. Many thanks👍
Thanks for the effort you have put into your videos. I am rebuilding a series 3 gearbox to go into my 1968 2a. My first restoration project, never had a gearbox apart before, but now you have provided great detail on how I need to put it back together. Just wondered what type of grease you used. I also noticed that my oil thrower was out by approx the same as yours.

It would have been nice to have seen a bit more of the car to see what it looks like.
No noisier than a Landy! ;-)
How can test my pump for correct fuel pressure? Disconnect it before the fuel filter and eyeball it with a jar to catch the fuel? Ideas?
I was just about to buy a repair kit before i watched this. I took my old one apart and agree with lots of what you say. Now just ordered a new pump instead. Thanks for the advice.
Congratulations - have one myself, in silver too. Brilliant little vehicle for where I live. Do have a look at the aftermarket stuff, plenty to improve/personalise A vehicle I’ll be keeping
Congratulations on the Jimny! I didn't realize they were still manufacturing them, but there are loads of vehicles out there that we don't get to see in the US. Have fun with it. That should be a great daily driver, especially with the excellent fuel mileage.
Thank you! Yes I think we only got something like 400 of them this year, so they are around but remain an uncommon sight. I really hope that they expand UK sales in the future. I'm getting nearly 42mpg at the moment, no complaints.
lol, why do I find your videos just after I need them! Your transfer box series saved my sanity and I freed up my MAP hub just before watching this and finding out how it really works:
These Jimnys are selling like hot cakes in Australia, when released they were selling for A$26,000 on road drive away, wait lists quickly blew out to many months. Suzuki seeing a winner have been bumping the price up steadily, they now sell for high A$30's and still are moving as fast as they can be imported. Owners of the early units have been selling their second hand cars for more than they paid for it new. The Jimny and its grand father Sierra have always been very competent reliable light 4wds. Getting the job done easier and cheaper than huge heavy fuel guzzling wagons. A good practical car that with a set of more off road rated tyres will go anywhere.
Зачем ви виехали из за кустов по встречке? Ви преступник?
Glad you are happy with it. I parked my swb series 3 next to one of these recently and there are definitely similarities so its no surprise that you are the 2nd Land Rover you tuber I follow who has bought a Jimny. Should be the perfect companion to WRD. Looking forward to future updates on both.
I think they both share all the key characteristics, all the charms of a classic four wheel drive without the disadvantages.
The lwb version just got released here in the Philippines recently. Quite pricey even for the swb.
The 1.6 petrol on the old suzuki swift sport (to 2012 I think) was a great engine. Always thought they should have put a turbo on it and went from 5 gears to 6 and that little car would have been amazing
Class little car. The new defender should just have been a bigger version on these lines...
Looks great. Its the type of car JLR could have made. “Defender Lite” instead of their obsession with £100k cars. Ive a 27 yo Defender and love it.
I agree in that it would be great to see a back to basics, British built vehicle along the same lines, though sadly I think JLR's market is now a world away from that of the new Jimny. I know these are popular but they are not selling in huge numbers at all, hence the very small number that have been imported to Britain, quite a niche vehicle in reality. I really hope they decide to keep selling them here, I feel the Jimny is the perfect vehicle for our roads, year round.
Very impressive vehicle. We were looking at a 2024 Jeep Compass recently but the price tag at about 40K USD was rather prohibitive. Especially now that we are retired. There are zero used ones to be found. They don`t last long on the lots, sold often in one or two days. And they are ridiculously high priced even so. This one suits you well.
The cost of vehicles has become rather frightening! Not really so very long ago I bought my first car new off the dealer forecourt for £6k... how things have changed. It was affordable to work for that, I think the last Fiesta's were about £22k for a basic model when they stopped producing those. Outrageous!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mine mate, sadly sold a few years ago for no good reason, but I suppose we all do that from time to time 😅 Is the 1500 still a VVT engine like the older 1300 ?
Very much enjoying it so far, it's really good to finally have the daily driver that I want. I've no idea if it's a VVT engine, will have to do some reading.
I know they stopped doing "saloon" Jimnys because of emissions regulations, but I have seen a few with four adults on board and I don't think rear leg room was a priority! Surprised they didn't delete the side windows when it became a commercial model though. Cheers
I think you can actually get panels to replace the windows if you want to, personally I quite like the visibility and it's quite light in the cabin too. TBH I think these make so much more sense as a light commercial, it's certainly far more useful to me.
My daughter bought a new passenger Jimny in Australia, uses it for off road and camping. Jimny owners are very similar in their passion for the car to us Series Landy owners
I hadn't really appreciated the following for Jimny's of all generations, but it's great what with the huge aftermarket supply for these vehicles.
Do you have the part number for the bearings?
Where can you get the longer belt to reach the TE1
great video are you still working on land rovers.
With some of the comments you was making, I don’t believe this engine ran all day and approximately 1 L of fuel it would also be far more interesting if you had a suitable size pulley to drive either a car alternator or a permanent magnet generator and run the engine and shown everyone how many amps was being produced to charge the battery and it would also be able to see the engine on the road on and off load as you connected and disconnected the charging system. Not sure whether you’ve ever thought how many people, would buy an engine just to start it up and watch it tick over for four or five hours doing nothing that is not what engines was originally meant to do assuming your engine is 4 or 5 hp a Reasonable Load would be at least half it’s maximum horsepower viewers would be able to see it go under load and see how well it performed. You have done a sterling job with regards cleaning and getting the engine into an excellent state of health all we need to see is it now working and doing possibly the job? It was meant to do? I hope you are not offended cheers Derek.
I've been rebuilding my gearbox and when I've put it back together the syncromesh seems to slide forward too far. I'm thinking I've pushed the mainshaft through too much so that the primary pinion isn't press up against the outside of the syncro enough. is there a guide as to how much end float there should be on the mainshaft?
excellent video as always, which chassis do you decide on? ive got a 109 in need of a new one and theres a few to choose from.
I agree, the 4 cylinder petrol is a sweet motor and sounds great. I have a fully restored Aussie army 109 with the 2.6 six cylinder, which sounds even better. They’re in no great hurry, but nor should the driver be!
Very helpful video. I have just bought a set on eBay for my Series 2a 88 station wagon. Fortunately I have a lathe and small milling machine 😊
Great videi thank you. I have just rebuilt the 2.25 time to fix up the clutch. Habdy vide, thank you.
Brilliant many thanks for that.👍
I think you are using the hydraulic press too much. There is always a risk of damaging an aluminium casing. Most viewers will not have a press anyway so it's useful to make them aware that warming the casing with a blowlamp causes it to expand and enable bearing housings to be dropped into place quite easily.
If you want to see how it's done without the use of the press, see the previous set of gearbox overhaul videos. I'm a qualified engineer and I assure that this job is easier with the use of a hydraulic press and far less injurious to the components.
I’m an open crank noob and this was super handy👍
Can a series 3 bell housing fit the series 2 gearbox?.....i want to change the clutch set up
Fantastic video series! I dismantled my car two years ago and was trying to remember how it went back together. This video saved me. Books just don’t show much. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Mate, I'm having a right headache trying to figure out what the torque settings are for the rocker shaft bolts on the pedestals?? every resource I've come across suggests something different ( is it 65 ft ibs on the bigger bolts and 18 ft ibs on the smaller?? cheers
Just got one of these mine around the same year as yours 1910 to 15. What is the engine number from this engine?
Ahh this explains how my old mower could have a hedge trimmer attachment mentioned in the literature
What are the small hoses you have running into the small covers?
I fitted these and the wheels are too far forwards in the arches and looks weird how can I rectify this?
Hi, i'm finding when I have finished adjusting a valve to the correct clearance, there is slight 'wiggle' on the rocker when pushing back and forth between the valve and the spring. Which obviously seems that no matter how particular I am with clearance, the required clearance won't be that accurate anyway. It's a series 3 diesel that unfortunately hasn't had the attention these cars need to prolong them, I'd massively appreciate your input or anyone for that matter, cheers
